If you’re keeping up with pop music these days, you probably know this track, at least in some capacity. DJ Snake’s 2014 remix of the fantastic AlunaGeorge’s “You Know You Like It” has recently found its way onto top-40 radio across the world, and, admittedly, it’s not half bad. However, it doesn’t hold a candle to the original version, released back in 2012 as the lead single from their debut album Body Music. This was the track that helped get AlunaGeorge some attention in their native UK before Disclosure came along and invited them to help out on the sublime “White Noise” (still both act’s biggest UK hit to date.) With its deep, grimy bass and light and airy drum loop laying a simplistic backdrop for Aluna Francis’ slithering vocal, the original track is a masterful fusion of R&B and minimal house that sounds much larger than it actually is. When you throw in a delicate, but insanely catchy chorus, “You Know You Like It” is a clear cut success, leaving very little doubt as to why DJ Snake wanted to get his hands on it. No matter how many dance floor’s the remix fills or how many radio spins it garners, AlunaGeorge’s original cut is a far more compelling track that’s definitely worth knowing.
